Arthritis is by definition the inflammation of one or more joints, characterized by swelling, pain, warmth, redness and diminished range of joint movement (Oxford Medical Dictionary).

There are many different types;

Noninflammatory; Osteoarthritis, Neuropathic arthritis and osteochondritis dissecans

Inflammatory; Rheumatoid Arthritis, gout, psoriatic arthritis and juvenile chronic arthritis

Infectious; Septic Arthritis, Haemorrhagic Arthritis

Osteoarthritis is by far the most common form of arthritis in the UK, accounting for 2.4% of GP visits.

Treatment is usually lifestyle changes in early stages, followed by medications (analgesics, NSAIDs, DMARDS's and steroids) then surgery in severe cases. Better treatment is needed because the disease is so limiting in its severe stages, reducing peoples ability to earn, and is also so common.
