Before you start to use the service we strongly recommend that you read the following help files and follow the examples below:

You can select and add top terms associated with your search concept, cross-reference related records using our proprietary thesaurus, rank the results by relevance score or by word category association.

Example 1

You want to search for documents that discuss Gene Therapy and Cancer.

Step 1 - Go to the BioWeb Search Engine - hit Search in the top navigation bar to start a new search. Type into the search box +"Gene Therapy" and cancer. The "Gene Therapy" is interpreted as a phrase and not as two single words. The "+" sign adds weight to the term Gene Therapy. 

Step 2 - Alter the % relevance score to 50% then click search

Step 3 - Browse the documents descriptions and tick the left hand box if it meets your interest. Then press the Improve button.

Step 4 - In the Top Terms box tick those words that meet your interest and press the  Improve button.

Step 5 - With the list of documents you can sort by Cluster (level of word association) by pressing the image of small dots.

Example 2

You wish to understand the development of gene therapy and where its is being applied.

Step 1 - Go to the BioWeb Search Engine and click on Thesaurus

Step 2 - Using the Thesaurus search box type in Gene Therapy and press Look Up. A list of word will appear - tick those that are of interest. These will then appear in the search box at the bottom of the page.

Step 3 - Click on the words of interest, for example Cancer - a further list of terms will appear. Tick those that you feel are appropriate. Then click okay. The large search box will then appear.

Step 4 - Before searching alter the % relevance score to 50% - then hit search.

Step 5 - Browse the document descriptions and tick the left hand box if it meets your interest. Then press the Improve button.

Step 5 - In the Top Terms box tick those words that meet your interest and press the Improve button.

Step 6 - With the list of documents you can sort by Cluster (level of word association) by pressing the image of small dots.

Example 3

You wish to be informed of any new information on the BioWeb index on  five specific companies.  YOU NEED TO A MEMBER TO RECEIVE ALERTS - go to Membership Services

Step 1 -  Go to the BioWeb Search Engine and then press Alert on the top navigation bar.

Step 2 - Hit the "add new" button and enter the Create an Agent screen.

Step 3 - Type the name of your Agent in the "agent name" box and then your search terms/phrase in the "Search on" box. For example "Arial Pharmaceuticals" "Aastrom" "Atlantic Pharmaceuticals" "Avigen" "AVI Biopharm". 

Step 4 - Before hitting the Update button alter the % relevance score to 50% - then hit the Update button.

Step 5 - If you want to add new terms Press The Edit Agent button or the Brief Agent button and select terms provided.

Step 6 - To view the documents hit the name of the Agent.

Step 7 - With the list of documents you can sort by Cluster (level of word association) by pressing the image of small dots.

Step 8 - Proceed to our E-Commerce facility to purchase one years subscription to your own Personal Agents.
